The Togolese Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR) released its initial report to President Gnassingbe on April 3. The Commission, empowered to examine Togo's history from 1958 through 2005 for human rights abuses and violence, examined some 22,415 depositions and heard from 523 witnesses during the course of its work. The309-page report includes conclusions and 68 recommendations from the Commission. In accepting, the report from CVJR President Mgr Nicodeme Barrigah, President Gnassigbe asked for 'forgiveness' from the Togolese people in the 'name of the the nation of Togo, in my own name, and in the name of previous Heads of State' of Togo for any wrongs that might have been committed..
